Commendation and Appreciation

When was the last time you commended someone for his/her effort? When did you last show your appreciation to someone who has in one way or another contributed to your life?

Commendation. Appreciation. These are two words, like apology, are easier said than done. But think about it: how did you feel when someone sincerely commended you for your effort? How did you feel when someone showed his appreciation for your contribution? Granted, some tasks are minial and unimportant, but the time and energy spent surely deserves a pat on the back!

Sometimes, we get a little bigheaded, thinking that every job on hand we have, everything we do is important and we are indispensable from the current tasks. So we ‘conveniently delegate’ seemingly easy, unimportant tasks to others (could be our subordinates or others whom we “see” to have a lot of leisure time to while away. Then we give 101 limitations to them to work on their tasks. One could make a slight mistake but instead of letting the one involved know, we tell another who is kindly doing another a favour (which would probably never be repaid) off. Seriously, how could a clueless person know the whys and hows without being informed?

Really, it’s time for us to reflect on how we treat others – PARTICULARLY family, friends, workmates, subordinates. Do we take them for granted for being on standby whenever and wherever we need them to do something? Could we at least try to put ourselves into their shoes and consider what they have done, the trouble they have taken to perform what others call “Value Added Services”? Instead of merely laughing it off as a small matter and act as if it was no big deal, could we at least offer our thanks?

Do not underestimate the power of SINCERE commendation and appreciation. It heightens one’s motivation to continue on serving us. It brightens a person’s day. It brings a smile to one’s face. It brings joy to one’s heart. Most importantly, we show that we care and appreciate every ounce of sweat and energy and willpower that one has used to lighten our workload, our burden.

Remember, SINCERE commendation and appreciation comes from the heart, NOT out of duty or responsibility or because you have to. Otherwise, there really isn’t any use commending and appreciating people. Go, show and tell someone that you care NOW before it’s too late.

A tribute to freedom..

A confession: I truly understand the feeling of a herd of cattle stuck in the barn… I felt like a lembu dilepas kandang.

I miss the days when we could go anywhere and everywhere right after class at non-peak hours, ranging from 11am to 3pm and 8pm to the next morning. I miss practicing my vocals at a certain nearby “vocal-training coloured box” and sing till I croak like a frog. I miss going out “yam char” at 12am and chatting with friends about anything and everything and not have any cares and worries about the world… (erm, that kinda explains my dark circles sometimes). I miss wandering around Kuala Lumpur till the wee hours of the night, driving as if the whole street belonged to us (no traffic laws broken!) and looking at KL from a different point of view. Yes, I miss my life before I was bonded to a contract of constant sleepiness and exhaustion => a life of work, work and home.. Please do not get me wrong. It’s just that sometimes stress and anxiety comes FROM home. I’m sure many can emphatise with me.

Gimme just one night…! That’s all I need to recharge.

A tribute to friends!

Pony, Bear and Me
Pony, Bear and Me

Dear friends (Bear, Pony, Panda, FC, Kiwi, tty, and everyone, just to name a few),

Thank you for the great 3 years we spent together having lots of fun, lepaking, enjoying and playing non-stop. Girls, thank you for being there for me in both good and bad times. I love you all and will never forget you. We probably would not have the chance to spend that kind of time together again but we’ll always remember our sweetest 3 years together. Take care and may we meet again in future!

Yours truly,

Tortoise

Graduation…

Christine and I after the convocation ceremony..

Graduation.. The moment passed so quickly that I still can’t believe that life as a student is officially OVER..! It feels strange. As Marco “rubbed salt into my already painful wounds”, I can’t deny that I’m officially in the REAL world. But that’s another story. This time I’m writing about a significant turning point in life and a tribute to friendship and university life.

First of all, graduation… again. It took me 4 years of studying, 3 months of waiting and 1 day off work for this day to arrive. Interestingly, it all ended in 30 seconds. I’ve named it the most significant 30 seconds in my life as a student. Funny eh? But I’m sure most graduates would echo my words. 4 years of studying is really no joke. That equals to 1461 days or 35,064 hours! The anxiety and stress of meeting deadlines for assignments and the many nights spent burning the midnight oil in preparation for mid-term tests and final exams.. That’s the part that we’re all glad is OVER! However, there’s another part of university life that I miss very much.. FREEDOM and FRIENDSHIP… which will be expanded in my next post.

It’s been a swift 4 months since I started work and my last post. So many things happened.. like graduation, turning 22 and home alone for 1 whole week! Yeah.. Sounds interesting but those are just 3 out of 4 months of sleep-deprived days. Mum keeps telling me, “Now you know what working life is like..” Yes yes, mummy. I get your hidden message.. :-(

I promise in not too long time later I will (I really, really will) upload my grad pictures and tell you more stories. Or you could just check out my Facebook for some glimpses. Oh ya, please please add me in Facebook. Haha…

Adios for now… *muacks*
